We are a band. We are The Treasures.
...los Tesoros are not dead. Nor have we broken up. Not even. In fact, quite the opposite. We're working harder than ever on our forthcoming debut, and I ish-you-not it is literally going to change lives. Clearly, life changing music is not created on a whim, or by fortunate happenstance. Not even. That would be too easy. And we're all for the easy way, trust us. We cut corners on nearly every single thing that we do in our lives. But we do not cut any corners, nor do we take any shortcuts, when it comes to crafting our songs. What we do instead, is we basically utterly destroy our brains (and our hearts) for every quarter note of music. For every lyric, we crush our souls to come up with the perfect syllable. Working that way has its disadvantages, one being that to-date we have exactly zero completed songs. But the advantage is obvious. These songs won't just change diapers, they'll literally change lives. And that is what the Treasures are in this game for anyway. Stay tuned for the official release date. The Treasures are not done. Not for all the tea in China. Not even. Brett talking turkey with the Treasures management team.
Christian after I told him we forgot to hit the record button on our best take yet of "Pastronomy".
Life, at times, can throw you an unexpected curve ball, Bert Blyleven style. Sometimes you swing and miss. Sometimes you connect, and knock that grass-fed meat out of the park.
To put it another way, now and again, when you least want or expect it to, a door closes. Then a window opens because you throw a terra cotta brick through it. Yeah you might have a couple cuts on your arms from trying to climb out through broken glass, but you come out the other side wondering why you were ever inside in the first place, and not outside, where you are now after climbing through the broken window.
What we are saying, obviously, is that sometimes what seems like a bad break can actually be the greatest single opportunity of your life. Recently, The Treasures were made aware of some difficult, bordering on disasterous, news. There is another band called The Treasures (at this point we won't be getting into disparaging the other Treasures music because the squeeze just ain't worth the juice). This is the kind of thing that effectively cripples bands. A name change is one thing, but when your name is a carefully crafted, well-thought out identity, when it embodies who and what you are, when it encapsulates the true essence of all that you represent, and you have to abandon that...well, lesser bands have thrown in the towel. And we aren't going to sugarcoat this, we almost threw it in too. But then we didn't.
In an undeniably God-ordained twist of harmonic and predestined fate, a good friend of ours made a suggestion to us that rocked our world. He knows us well. He knows our personalities. He knows our musical sensibilities. And more than that he knows what our new band name (might) be.
But, The Treasures don't rush into anything. We aren't rushing our album, we aren't rushing our album artwork, and we aren't rushing this. We might change our name, we might not. But, if and when we do, please know that the name we have chosen to replace the name we initially named our band is a name that captures us wholly and completely.
Check back in a little while, we will announce our decision soon.
Best,
-The Treasures
The promised interview that was promised to you is forthcoming, we promise. We had to ferret it through legal for various reasons but it should be posted within the week. In the meantime, check out a couple studio pics that really capture the vibe of what we are doing right now. It's been amazing.
Obviously we get a lot of questions regarding what we're doing daily in regards to the album or we wouldn’t have started this blog. We’ll continue to give you all the info regarding bands and things that we like, photos of the process, etc. but here is the first of many updates on where we are at with the new album:
At this point we have a bunch of songs. All of them have been started, but none of them has been finished. There is plenty of talk about perhaps releasing the album as one long song, with no breaks between, but that has not been decided. Right now the thing we are really focusing on is not finishing the music in terms of actually having fully crafted songs, but phrasing. Phrasing is so important, but most bands just seem to disregard it. We spend most of our time on it. We have a quote on the whiteboard in the studio that says, “The right turn of phrase, the right song that plays.” "The right turn of phrase, this song's so in phase."
More updates soon, but also keep an eye out for an interview we just did, we’ll post the transcript here and maybe some photos from the shoot we did as part of the interview.
Best,
-The Treasures
When they got here, all exhausted / On the roof leaks they got started / And now when the rain comes / We can be thankful
"I was graceless, I pooped myself like a prince."
Take a listen to Wye Oak, a duo out of Maryland. As fans of their music, we, The Treasures, hope to have the opportunity to play a few shows with them SOON! What do you think of Wye Oak?
